Another Mini

Well I finally got around to finishing the mini quilt "Waiting For Patricia Arquette." I thought that the simple straight stitching was the best for this little quilt.
I'm pleased with the way it turned out. This is the 5th mini I've made since the end of last year.

Here is a sneak peek at the challenge quilt. It's coming along quite slowly. I will be using a polka dot print for the binding, but I haven't decided on the color yet. I have lots of choices, considering I've used every color in the quilt already! LOL
Well, I am using my scraps and that is the purpose of the group. I just hope I'm finished it time.

Oh I forgot to say, that beautiful lavender under the mini is my new cutting mat. After switching the cutting and sewing tables, I realized the old one was too big.

Friday Scrapbag

This is one of two paper pieced blocks I made a while back. I just love the colors and thought it was just the thing to post for the end of the first week of spring 2010!
I made this block for a Scrap Bags paper piecing challenge. At the end of the challenge one lucky quilter won all of the blocks. Sad to say it wasn't me. (but it's my group so that wouldn't be fair)
The block is by Carol Doak. I love her patterns. It looks difficult I know but it's not. It's actually four blocks made separately and then sewn together like a four patch. Simple, right?
I think I'll use this pattern again to make a quilt over the summer. Lots of pink, yellow, orange, lavender and green (lime of course) flower colors.
Enjoy the weekend!

Monday, March 22, 2010

I spent most of the weekend changing my sewing room around. I saw pictures of someones sewing room on Quilt With Us and I got an idea that is a solution to an ongoing problem. I've never had enough room behind my sewing machine for machine quilting. My machine was sitting on a computer desk at one end, TV in the center and ironing area at the other end. My cutting table was on the other side of the room. Seeing the pictures, it dawned on me to switch the sewing and cutting table. I just had to adjust the table legs. Sounds simple right? Well I didn't take into consideration all the junk that was piled on the cutting table. So needless to say it turned into a cleaning and purging event. Now I have a stack of books and fabric to give away and donate, but I'm loving the new set up. Just in time too, because I'll be getting a new Juki machine soon. (had to save for it, took awhile) So I must say I had a very productive National Quilting Day, even though not much quilting was done!

I said in my profile that I enjoy hand embroidery. Here is a sample that will become a pincushion soon.

Need a Little Help Please

Here are 2 pictures of the quilt I am working on for my "Scrap Bags" Log Cabin challenge. Originally the black squares were going to be violet and the logs were going to be blues and pinks. Then I remembered, when I issued the challenge it was to have 4 or more colors.
So now I have a truly scrappy Log Cabin.
Ok, so the problem is I don't know what to use for the side and corner triangles. I'm thinking a black and white print I haven't used in the body so far. I don't think I want to use solid black. What would you do? Please help! Leave a comment! My deadline is April 30th.

Friday Scrapbag

This is a not so good picture of a mini quilt without a binding that hangs in my sewing room. I made it a few years ago by just grabbing scraps and sewing them together. It's one of my favorite mini quilts, even though it has no binding. It was inspired by.......

this book by Gwen Marston. It's a great book.
Right now I'm reading Freddy and Gwen Collaborate Again.
I like this book as well. It's great inspiration for a scrap
quilter like me who loves color!

Riviera Tablerunner

Over the weekend I will be working on getting this tablerunner quilted. It's made from the strings in a previous post. I'm going to machine quilt it, so it shouldn't take too long. LOL I used these blocks in a tutorial for my In Love with Strings group on Quilt With Us.

This is what I've been looking like lately. Thanks Em!

Friday Scrapbag

This is my Oklahoma Backroads quilt. It's designed by Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville. It was a scrap challenge from my Quilt With Us, Scrap Bags group. I really enjoyed making it. But I guess you know, it didn't put a dent in my scraps!

It did produce these. Leaders and Enders, again from Bonnie Hunter. With these I made

this. It's a mini. I have so many left, I think the next Leaders and Enders quilt will have to be much larger!

"Celebrating Spring" Giveaway

You will notice in the picture below that I have 2 copies of this Stash-Buster book. My DB who is living in London right now gave me one for Christmas, not knowing I already had a copy. He said the salesperson assured him I wouldn't have this book because the author was English.
I will be giving a copy of this book to one lucky person.
Below there is 1 yard of fabric from the new Cheep Talk line from Connecting Threads.
I will be giving this fabric away to another lucky person.

My favorite thing about Spring is the emergence of Spring flowers and the fact that there's more daylight. What is your favorite thing about Spring? Leave a comment telling me what your favorite thing is about spring, for 1 entry. Leave a comment and become a follower for 2 entries. Please let me know which of the items you prefer in your comment.

I will choose the winners on Tuesday March 16th!

Good Luck!

2nd UFO Finished

Another UFO finished, yeah! This is the the one I showed in a previous post. I couldn't bring myself to use the single fold binding. I made a new binding, as I discovered there were plenty of scraps from this quilt. I like the way it came out. I think it started as a color experiment. I really don't remember but the Log Cabin is my favorite block. This quilt will be donated to charity.
Now on to the next UFO! I think I'm doing a good job. I only finished 1 UFO all of last year!

Friday Scrapbag

I will be finishing up this mini quilt tonight. As I've mentioned previously I like the TV show Medium. I made this from the scrap bag one Friday evening in October when I was waiting for the show to come on. So I've named it " Waiting for Patricia Arquette".
For those of you who may be interested I will be having a Spring Giveaway. So don't forget to check back.

Happy Dance

I am doing the "Happy Dance" .
I have been sewing for most of my life, actually I started making doll clothes when I was a child. I made clothing all through school and helped my friends make dresses to wear to school dances. I made all my Prom dresses. I've made clothing and quilts for my DD. I've also made quilts and clothing for my DH, DS and other family members. I've always been the one who did the sewing, quilting and sometimes tailoring.

So imagine my surprise when this arrived in the mail yesterday! I couldn't believe someone had actually made a quilt for me! A beautiful quilt, with great color and design. I smiled, I laughed, I cried, NO REALLY CRIED! I was so over whelmed I didn't know what to do. I couldn't write this blog last night because I didn't know where to begin.

This wonderful quilt was given to me by Em at Em Celebrates. Thank you so much Em! You made me so happy. I always thought the only way I would get a quilt would be to make it myself. I'm surprised, happy and grateful. Thank you again! Quilter's really are the best!
