Rainbow Challenge Scrap Happy Saturday

I guess you all remember this from a few weeks ago.

Well, here it is in it's new form. Guess what it is now?

I made a needle book out of it. The only thing I can say about it is it's interesting. So this is my last Red project for February. I hope next month brings a better color for me.

The Baby Quilt

Ok here is the quilt I made for my sister's grandson that I mentioned in a previous post. This quilt has been named "The Prideful Quilt" which is probably not a good name (proverbs 16:18)
Here's the story. I knew my sister had a grand baby due around Christmas, but I thought it would be born after Christmas. So you know the baby was born before Christmas and the only thing I had for a gift was a receiving blanket I'd made from yellow flannel and trimmed in the brown Owl print you see in this quilt. Well some of the mother's family and friends didn't believe I'd made the blanket, even though I'd made a quilt for the baby's sister. Has that ever happened to you? Maybe it was because it didn't have a label, but I don't usually put labels on receiving blankets. So of course to prove I made the blanket I used the same Owl fabric along with other fabrics in my stash to make this quilt.

All I can say is I hope they like it! ( This one has a label!)

Do you remember this fabric from a previous post last Feb?

Well here they are now in their new form. I need a little help with this one. I don't know if I like the stripe I've chosen for the border, but I haven't been able to find anything else. What do you think? Should I use the stripe or try a solid or something else?

Rainbow Challenge Scrap Happy Saturday

After last week's disaster I played it safe and made another block for the charity quilt. As you can see there's a piece of that rose fabric at the top of the picture.

Here's the quilt on the design wall. I'm really pleased with the gray I used for the center string. I purchased it in Lancaster at Zooks, my favorite place to shop in Lancaster.

The inner border is a narrow gray strip and I chose this really colorful stripe for the outer border. Lots and lots of color in this quilt. Must have been influenced by the gray and snowy winter. (ya think?) The only color not included in the stripe is the Aqua, but you really can't tell.

Here's a little peek at what's on the design wall now.
Have a great weekend!

Wayback Wednesday

It occurred to me that I haven't done a Wayback Wednesday in a long time. So this little quilt (21 1/2 x 25 1/2) was finished in the late 90's. It marks the first time I tried mitered borders. It's also one of my first machine quilted quilts. It's a good thing you can't see the back! This was the color scheme of my Condo at the time. This quilt now spends it's days as a table topper in the guest bedroom. There are two of my other blue quilts in that room aka my Etsy storage room.

Happy Quilting!

Just Resting

Do you have one of these? Does yours do this? I don't usually leave my computer on or open, but this time I was coming right back. Guess I didn't get back soon enough!

Rainbow Challenge Scrap Happy Saturday

Well I put a few red scraps together with a bit of iron on Peltex and made these bookmarks that I've made many many times before.
Just iron red solid to the back, and a zig zag stitch all around and there you have it.

This next project is a mess! I don't know where it's going. I thought I had an idea, but it doesn't  want to go in that direction. You know, it has a mind of it's own. I should have expected as much. I don't care for the red rose fabric at all. I don't like the color. When I ordered it last Oct. I thought it was a bit more on the pink side. Which would have been great as I was collecting fabric for a pink charm swap. Well as you can see it's not pinkish it's kind of and orangey red.

I'll try to work on this a little more and maybe I'll have something decent to show next week.

Good Week

This week is really ending on a high note for me! First on Wednesday evening DD and I had to take her MP3 player back to Walmart as she's been having problems with it off and on since Christmas. After we found her a new one and the exchange was made I thought I would check the fabric dept. to see if they had any of the Pellon 80/ 20 cotton/poly batting I like. Well this is me doing the happy dance. They only had about 2 1/2 yards but it was on clearance at $2.00 a yard. That's not all, they had a new bolt (still in plastic) of the 50 cotton 50 bamboo batting. It was on clearance at $3.00 a yard! YES, I bought the whole bolt! I will be visiting the other Walmarts in my area this weekend to look for more of the 80/20.

So fast forward to today. Jasmine and I were quilting away on a baby quilt for my sister's new grandson ( story of this quilt to follow at a later date) when the cat left the room and ran down stairs. So I decided I should go see what was up. Lucky me there was a package at the door. It seems some people in my family do actually read my blog. After reading my post about not having much read fabric, my sister sent me all of these lovely fabrics as a belated birthday gift! Thank you so much Toddy! (aka Natasha)
Now I'm goin back to work, need to make something red by Saturday.

Still Here

Hello, yes I'm still here. I've been busy actually sewing instead of perusing
blogland. It's really hard, there are so many great blogs out there.

I got this table runner finished just before the weekend. It's made with The remainder of the L'amour fabric by Sandy Gervais and a natural color Osnaburg.

I'm happy the weather seems to be changing here! We've even seen the sun for 3 days this week. Maybe that Ground Hog was right. We're supposed to have 60 degree weather by next Thursday. Can you say SPRING? YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rainbow Challenge Scrap Happy Saturday

It's Red month in the 2011 Rainbow Challenge. I don't know how much I'll have to contribute this month as my red scraps are limited. I thought it was strange that I had so few scraps until I looked in the closet and discovered my red stash is really lacking also. It just goes to show you, you like what you like and I've never been fond of red!

So I put a few strips together with some embroidery and some seed beads and I created a Valentine mini book. I hope you can see the beads. I have trouble taking photos of red items.

I mixed these red prints together with an aqua and red print and some Osnaburg to make a couple of mug rugs for my family room. I like how they look with the organic line stitching.

Guess I'll have to cut up some of the stash next week. This post is linked up with soscrappy so go check out the other posts for this months challenge.

ICE

This is what we woke up to this morning! Lots of ice, on everything! Branches down all over the place. Luckily though, no power outages, so far.

Here's is my poor ice covered Weigelia. It's up against the house just like the Holly bush but somehow the Holly bush looks much better. No ice.

Here are a few of the scrappy things I worked on yesterday. My first selvage creation. A covered mini notebook with a little hand embroidery.

I also dug into the red scrap bin and made these mug rugs for the family room.
Today I'll keep myself busy doing bindings and working on some new things.
