What’s Working on Wednesday

This Wednesday what’s working is not very much. I caught a little bug while shopping with my DD for supplies to take back to school. So I haven’t done much sewing.

If you can ignore the flannel kitty remnant that I used as a portable design wall you can just about make out the new baby quilt I will be piecing today.

I did complete the stacked coins quilt top. It’s sandwiched and waiting to be quilted.

And since I didn’t spend much time in the sewing room I had lots of time to work on this shawl made with Bamboo yarn.

I was wondering if I’m the only one who has a problem with bobbins. Here’s the thing, I use so many different threads when I quilt I’ve been getting the bobbins mixed up. So now I have little containers with each threads bobbin, you know Aurifil, Gutermann, Superior. Is there an easier way? There’s gotta be!

I have 3 of the bobbin savers, lookes like a donut, soft plastic that you can pop your bobbins into. I have 3 different colors so a different kind of thread on bobbins goes in each.

Even though you caught a bug it looks like you have been able to carry on and achieve plenty. I do like the colours you have used in your Stacked Coins, and the baby quilt will also be lovely. I end up storing the bobbins of special threads with the original reel of the thread but now am having little containers of thread and bobbin everywhere - as I collect more types of thread its becoming a bit of a problem keeping track of them all!

I just started using Aurifil, and with the variety of weights, want to keep the bobbins straight. My Viking has colored plastic bobbins, so the red/orange ones are 50 wt, to match the Aurifil spool. I've also marked them with a Sharpie. I don't have lots of colors yet, so that's not a problem, yet. I've seen a tip by Sharon Pederson that she recommends using a spot of nail polish on the metal bobbins, orange for 50wt, green for 40, etc. She just marks the weight, not color. Once I start collecting more colors, I'll be storing the bobbin on the rack under the spool. I built my thread rack with long nails. Feel better!!
