What’s Working on Wednesday

Last week found me working on a variety of things not only did I finish the purse from Uncommonly Corduroy (see giveaway post) but some scrap projects as well.

I made another block from my ongoing leaders and enders pile. I will need to finish four of these before I can work on the quilt I have in mind.

I made one drawstring bag using Jen’s tutorial

and I have a second one almost finished.

I even got a bit of crocheting done. Still working with yarn scraps I chose these two colors and made another Topsy Turvy Cowl.

It snowed here again today but in my house it looks like Spring thanks to my DH for the flowers!

Uncommonly Corduroy Book Tour and Giveaway

Today I have the pleasure of being the 6th stop on the Uncommonly Corduroy book tour. This book is the first book for Stephanie Dunphy of Loft Creations. It’s all about quilting with corduroy.

As you all know I am one of Stephanie’s Supremes and as such I get to test patterns before they are published. I’ve been waiting a long time to share the pattern I tested for this book. Here is Fairlane in the book

and this is my version. I didn’t use corduroy in my quilt.  I enjoyed making this quilt, It’s wonderful how these simple blocks made such a great geometric quilt. I’m thinking a red corduroy version would look good in my family room.

Last week I used corduroy to make another item from the book. This is the small purse on the book cover called Sister Sharon.

In my version I used a soft fuchsia corduroy which was leftover from a jumper I made long ago. It’s a great pattern and the corduroy had a soft hand and was very easy to quilt. I think this would be a good choice when you need a quick gift.

Uncommonly Corduroy is available form Martingale and Amazon. A personalized copy of Stephanie’s book can be obtained here.

Now about the giveaway, Martingale is giving away one e book to one person from each stop on the book tour.

Scrap Happy Saturday

It’s the last pink Saturday of the month. I love pink but I’m ready for a new color. Maybe green, like chartreuse or lime. We’ll see.

I’ve quilted my randomly pieced pink blocks. I’m happy with the straight line quilting on this one.

I made a few tea wallets yesterday between other projects. One pieced and one with a larger scrap.

I wonder what others are doing with their pink scraps. Check RSC2014 to find out.

What’s Working on Wednesday

Not much is going on over here. I did a little quilting but I’m saving that for Saturday’s post.

Although I am on a fabric diet I have gotten some new fabric lately.

I got these samples for free from fabric designer Jennifer Sampou!

And I finally used the gift certificate I won last year to get this FQ bundle.

You all know how much I love scraps, well it seems I’ve collected a few more yarn scraps. Since I haven’t crocheted a granny in years I thought I’d gather my scraps and get busy. I will donate this shawl when it’s finished.

Scrap Happy Saturday

I know I’ve started these posts basically the same for weeks now but as we had yet another snow storm I had time to sew between shoveling. I guess I shouldn’t even mention it’s snowing again now!

Had the idea for these blocks while lying in bed last night. So the first sewing I did this morning was to make the block I imagined. I don’t know where this is headed but I like the start.

The first two scrap blocks I made have been paired with 2 more and I guess you can call them a table topper or a wall hanging. I’d like to get this one quilted today.

I’ve also had time in the evenings to work on another shawl. This one is different for me because I’m using 3 different yarns. I’m hoping for a spectacular finish.

Thanks for the suggestions for binding on my scrap table topper. I’m leaning towards the small chartreuse and white string dot.

What’s Working on Wednesday

I’m still working with scraps over here. This week it’s been mostly pink scraps. I finished making the 6 scrap mug rugs for a swap. I’m getting hand knit socks in return! Can’t wait! Believe it or not I forgot to get pictures before I mailed the mug rugs but I do have this peek at one of them.

I finished piecing this last week and I’m hoping to quilt it soon. I got these scraps in a destash.

           photo (61)

I also got these in the same destash and I need help selecting a binding.

Here are my choices. What do you think?

Today we are preparing for yet another snow storm. This one is supposed to bring 10-14” of snow in my little town. I’ve always liked snow but even I have had enough of this winter!

What’s Working on Wednesday

Really bad weather here again today. Like most other states across the country it's been a winter for the record books here in  Pa. Today it’s ice! I’m hoping we don’t lose power like so many others have including my DD’s college campus.

I’ve been digging in the scraps this week because I have 6 Valentine mug rugs to get finished.

When these are all done I will be quilting the 2 quilts and 2 table runners I have waiting in line for their turn.

Scrap Happy Saturday on Sunday

I’m a day late with my scrap items this week because I spent most of yesterday at IKEA. I needed another lamp. You know a little concentrated light for my Nina. I already use one with my Juki. The 59 year old eyes really appreciate it.

This month’s color is pink. I happen to like pink, which is funny because I never liked it when I was younger. The majority of my stash is pink, with lime green coming in a close second. Besides, remember I won that giveaway a bit ago, a box full of pink scraps.

First I made these randomly pieced blocks.

       ps

Then I made another one of these.

       pss

So now there are two. I’m thinking I will make 2 in each color and that should make a nice sized quilt at the end of the year.
