Scrap Happy Saturday and Let’s Book It!

This is the last green Saturday and I have a few things to share. I did actually hack up my strip sets and turn them into a table runner.

This piece just needs quilting.

You may remember a while back when I posted about Let’s Book It! over at Vroomans Quilts. Well I kept pushing my project aside for other things and I finally figured out why. I didn’t really like the pattern I’d chosen. So I chose another which I like better but it’s in the same book so it’s still a tessellation.

Here’s my layout all in green. I am working on this over the weekend.

I can’t say I made much of a dent in the green scraps. Next month’s color is yellow.

Scrap Happy Saturday

Not much time left for May’s color which is green. I did get to make a few strip blocks. Lime/chartreuse is one of my favorite colors so I have lots of green in my stash and my scrap pile.

I made a few of these strip blocks.

I think I’m going to turn them into one of these. This is a table runner I made in the 2011 RSC.

Or maybe one of these. This table runner is also from the 2011 RSC. Don’t know why I don’t have a picture of it completed. It’s one of my favorites, I use it a lot!

I’ll be working with the green scraps this weekend. I’d like to make a scrappy cosmetic bag or tote.

Hand stitching the binding on a quilt is one of my favorite parts of the quilting process. I don’t usually hand stitch binding on mug rugs and table runners though. I use this tutorial by Rita at Red Pepper Quilts.

Before trying this method there was lots of “unsewing” going on. Since I’ve been using this method my bindings have been close to perfect.

But recently I discovered this!

I used this little glue bottle and it changed everything! No more placing thousands of pins only to have them stab me as I’m trying to stitch the binding. No more removing clips as I sew the binding. Just a little stream of water soluble glue, press and sew! Just perfect!

Here is a video of Sharon Schamber demonstrating the glue basting method. There are many other “how to” videos out there if you want to try this method.

Happy me! Great binding!

What’s Working on Wednesday

I’ve been out of my routine for the past few days and now DD is home from school so I guess it will be a few more days until things return to normal. It also seems I’ve lost my mojo. We’ll see, hopefully that’s routine related too.

I am still organizing though. I got these last week when Joann had $1.99 shipping.

These are scrapbooking containers. They work great for WIPs and UFOs and fit perfectly under my cutting table on top of the fabric bins. These containers were only $4.99 a piece, just my price!

Lots of beautiful colors are appearing in the garden. I’m hoping to get some inspiration from the flowers to jumpstart my mojo.
