What's Working on Wednesday

I recently purchased some oilcloth from fabric.com on sale. I thought I would use it for cosmetic bags, lunch bags and small totes. Having never worked with it before I thought I'd see what I could find on the internet about it. I found lots of useful information. The one thing I thought would be a problem is top stitching because I don't have a Teflon foot. So in order to prevent the foot from sticking to the oilcloth I used washi tape!

I put a little strip on the bottom and it worked like a charm. The best part is no sticky residue.

I used the Alana pattern again and I'm pretty pleased with the results.

Fabric Shopping

My DH, DD and I took a trip to Lancaster this past Saturday. The Sauder Store was having a warehouse sale! I couldn't miss it this year like I did last year. I found lots of great fabrics at unbelievable prices!

I was so happy to find this Sun Print for $3.50 a yard! I already have a project in mind.
We also made some bulk food purchases, tea, steel cut oats, cocoa powder and a few other things. After that we went to Shady Maple Smorgasbord for the first time. The food was good and we all ate so much we could hardly move. I must say a great time was had by all!
Oh and I almost forgot, I bought a few skeins of yarn from a new to me yarn shop. Photo to come later.

What's Working on Wednesday

I haven't been on a bag kick in a long time, but it seems the tote/handbag bug has bitten me again. After completing the Alana bag in the cherry blossom fabric last week I was itching to make another. I chose this fabric from Connecting Threads as my DD said, "make a purple one."

And lucky me, while cleaning the closet in my sewing room I found this!
It just happened to be the perfect color for the lining. I remember buying it when the color was being discontinued. It was .99 a yard! No way I could pass that up!

So here it is all done, I think. I know you can't tell from the picture but the button has a purple/plum center that matches the bag pretty well. I haven't decided if I'll keep it or maybe search the button jars for another.
What do you think?

Hot!

It's 91 here today in beautiful Hatfield Pa! I spent most of the day shampooing carpets. Now I'm taking it easy having some strawberry infused water and deleting pictures from my iPad. Most of them have been posted on the blog or Instgram already but I had to share this one.

These are blankets I made about 15 years ago for my DD's Kelly ( Barbie relative) dolls. She found them while cleaning her room. The dolls have been packed away for years. Don't know how these escaped.

Hello From my iPad

Good morning I'm writing this on my iPad. I sure hope this works. I figured it was time to try since I spend more time on my iPad than my laptop. Still haven't figured out how to change the fonts but I'm working on it. If this does work maybe I can blog more often!

Here's a cross body bag I made this week.

Enjoy your weekend!

What’s Working on Wednesday

I’ve been wanting to make a quilt with small and large dots for a while now. So I took one small and one large dot Riley Blake cotton dots charm pack and tada!

       dots

Now I have a problem. I’d like to make it larger and I don’t have any yardage of these dots in my stash, so I have to order more charms to complete it.

Since I wasn’t going to be finishing the dots this week I thought I’d dig out another UFO! You might remember this if you’ve been following for a while. Here’s a post from 2013 at which time it had already become a UFO. (sad, but true)

It looks like I had squares in mind for this quilt, but I don’t remember.

So I made HSTs using this method.

          hsts

Stitched around all four sides.

        hst

Cut one way on diagonal.

          hst1

Cut the other way on the diagonal,

          hst2

and press! Four easy HSTs.

I’m linking up with WIP Wednesday.

On Sunday Hands 2 Help

You might remember this quilt I’ve been working on for donation.

Well it’s all finished and will be on it’s way to Quilts of Compassion this week. This is my second year donating to Hands 2 Help Challenge. I’m so happy to be participating again and I thank Sarah Craig for all of the work she does getting things organized.

If you’d like to see all the quilts in the challenge, here’s the link. Maybe you’ll be inspired to join in the fun next year!
