Another Rainy Saturday!

I have fallen down a rabbit hole. I’m determined not to return any scraps to their bins once I have taken them out for RSC. I’ve had the Lori Holt ScrappyProject Planner forever but never used it. All scraps are cut into usable pieces, similar to what Bonnie Hunter does. Once I started cutting I couldn’t stop until I cleaned the clutter from my cutting table.

I now have tons of 2.5” squares which will help me complete my postage stamp challenge blocks. I also have strips in 3 sizes cut and ready to use. I spent so much time cutting, I had to put an anti fatigue mat in front of my cutting table. On Friday I used a few of my newly cut squares to make these scrappy blocks. The pattern is Criss Cross Stars from Sew your stash on You Tube.

I finally pulled some green scraps out and started cutting them today. The green bin is packed, I could hardly open it! πŸ˜† Hopefully I’ll have something to show in green next week.

I did get to spend a little time in my garden and hope to put my tomatoes in this week. One of my Clematis is blooming right now.

Last Pink Saturday a Bit Late!

I didn’t get much sewing in the past week as I had to work on a custom coiled rope order. Also I got to spend time in the garden. Here’s a picture of the pink bowl.

I also finished a beanie bowl.

Looking forward to May’s color which is green. I’m linking up with RSC2022

Scraps

This week I finally finished my Kawandi mug rug. It’s my first Kawandi piece and I enjoyed every minute of it. I love any kind of hand stitching so this is the perfect thing for me. πŸ˜„ I used a bag of Kaffe Fassett scraps that were gifted to me for the top and an old Art Gallery fat quarter for the backing.

Of course after this one was finished l said why not make another one, in pink! I’m a little further along than this picture shows and I hope to have it finished to post next week.

Last month I forgot to make a coiled rope bowl in yellow, I remembered this month. Here is the start of a pink bowl. I haven’t decided on the size yet, I have lots of pink batik scraps.

So much rain here recently I haven’t done much in the garden. I’m hoping to set up a new raised bed for my tomatoes next week.

Scrappy Pink

It rained here all week and it’s raining again today. So no work in the muddy garden.  I love pink and it’s a great color to work with on a rainy day! So I had fun digging into the pink scrap bin this week. Of course I made the rectangle blocks which are made with the 3”x 4” rectangles.

I made 2 improv blocks and turned them into a table runner. It didn’t quite come out the way I imagined it while I was lying in bed. πŸ˜†

Today I’m hoping to work on pink string blocks and maybe some more improv blocks that might become mug rugs. 😊

I also finished another postage stamp block for a postage stamp challenge I joined. I have 3 so far, one each month. There are 100 squares in each block so it will be a good sized quilt at the end of the year.

This week I started a new evening crochet project. It will keep me busy while I watch my Phillies play baseball.

I’m joining the RSC2022 Go visit to see what the others are working on in pink and enjoy the weekend.

It's Slow Going!

I got to mess around in the gardens on Monday. I moved 3 pots of mini daffodils from the side garden to the back garden that’s under my dining room window. Took burlap off of the mums that weren’t in the ground yet that I was trying to over winter. Good luck, all but one survived. Actually everything looks good, roses, hydrangeas, except the herbs. Only the sage survived.

Not a lot of sewing going on over here this week or last week for that matter. I did finally bind these old WIPs.

I finished one coiled rope project that I started last week.

I did finish my evening crochet project and the pattern has been released. It's Nordic Winter by Michele DuNaier on Ravelry. I used a gradient yarn for this shawl. It's Hobbii Twister, a cotton/acrylic blend. I'm really pleased with the outcome!

I'm really happy that the Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for April is pink. I have lots and lots of pink and can't wait to dig into the bins!!

National Quilting Day Scrappy Saturday

Did a little digging in the yellow scrap bag this week. Not much there, but I did get some rectangle blocks done. I found and ancient yellow calico that I used years ago to make sachets for my sisters for Valentines Day. So I had to include a piece of it.

While digging through the bag I also found this strip piece. Leftover from some forgotten project. I think I will pair it with gray or black and white polka dot for a mug rug or table runner.

Continuing my year long plan to clear out WIPs and purge the junk. I got out these paper pieced blocks. They are so old, my daughter was in elementary school when they were made. She will be 30 in September! 🀣 The original plan was a quilt. I must have been crazy, the blocks are only 4”. Well today they have become an Easter table runner which I will quilt next week.

I did work on a coiled rope bowl/basket this week.

Today being National Quilting Day, my plan is to cut up the scrap piles on my cutting table. I figured there are at least 2 scrap quilts sitting there waiting to be made! πŸ˜†

Yellow Scrappy Saturday!

I spent a little time with my yellow scraps this week but not enough. I had to get a custom order finished. I took a few 5" squares and paired them with black and white stripes. Don't ask where this is going because I kind of got stumped after I started.

Hopefully I'll have more time for my yellow scraps next week.

The custom was lots of fun. I love making multicolored bowls/baskets and they are my best sellers. This was and order for Beanie bowls (small bowls less than 6") and trivets.

Scrappy Saturday!

The color for March is yellow. I don’t have much so it shares a bin with orange. I’m planning on making my usual rectangles, string blocks and of course a bowl or two. Oh and maybe a crumb block or two. πŸ˜„

I can’t imagine making an all yellow quilt, but you never know.

Scraps Everywhere!

There really is no end to my scraps! There would have to be two of me working 36 hours a day πŸ˜† to use all my scraps. While looking for random four patch blocks I found two more containers of scraps that I don’t remember creating. One contained squares in sizes from 2x2 up to 8x8 and also many rectangles. The other one was full of triangles.

I’m in an ongoing postage stamp challenge which is why I was looking for the four patch blocks. Never found them but I did manage to put enough together to create my 20x20 block for February.

I used some of the 2x2 squares to make this mug rug.

I used the remaining scraps on my cutting table to make these crumb block mug rugs. I will sew the binding on these and have four finishes this week.

And lastly I’ve started a new evening crochet project. It’s a designer test so when the pattern is released I’ll share it here. For now here’s a sneak peek.

Last Scrappy Aqua Saturday

I had fun working on a few Spring colored coiled rope bowls this week. These are sort of round ovals 🀣 I actually like the shape and plan to make a few more. The sides aren’t as high so they look a bit like trays I guess, good for TV remotes.

Here’s the aqua one in progress.

I did finally make more string blocks and also two crumb blocks that I may turn into a heating pad cover or mug rugs.

I also finished my evening crochet project this week. I’m happy to have it completed as it was supposed to be done by Jan. 31st. 🀣 Now I just need to block it.

This shawl is Wild Ginger by Lisa Cook if you’re interested in the pattern.

Scrappy Saturday on Sunday

Didn’t get around to posting a blog yesterday because we were trying to keep warm. Some electrical problem with the heating system has us without heat. We consider ourselves lucky that the night time temps have only been in the teens and not lower. We have a fireplace which we rarely use, it helps a lot. We used tower heaters in the bedrooms. The repairman will be here on Monday morning, of course we are expecting a high of 55 - 60 degrees on Monday. 🀣

This week I did lots of sewing. Many bowls were completed. This first one was a custom order. It measures 10” wide by 3 1/2” high. She plans to use it to hold plates in her kitchen.

In an effort to help push Spring along I made these for my shop.

I also started something I’ve wanted to make since I saw the first one around 2019. A Kawandi quilt. Since this is a new process for me I chose to start with a mug rug. I found a bag of Kaffe Fassett scraps that were given to me a while back and cut a few squares to get started. I’m really enjoying this so far, but I’ve always loved hand stitching and the stitching is just like Kantha, a running stitch.

And finally I did make two more rectangle blocks which brings the aqua/teal to 5 so I’m finished. Hoping to work on string blocks this week. 😊

Another Scrappy Saturday!

I'm still working with my scraps this week. The more I dig and organize, the more scraps, projects and half projects I'm finding. I found a pile of small scraps I think were leftover from zipper bags. Now they are crumb blocks.

I made a few 4 patch blocks as I’ve joined a postage stamp quilt challenge. I need to make 25 four patch blocks each month and join them. I chose 2 1/2” blocks. So far I have twelve done.

I also made some of those rectangle blocks with the 3” x 4” scraps. I’m planning 5 of these a month.

I’ll have to make a few more bowls. This one sold yesterday.

We’re having warmer sunny weather this week and I’m hoping Spring is around the corner. πŸ’
