Happy Monday

It’s Monday! I had a wonderful birthday in my sewing room. I did two very necessary things. One was to organize my batiks. They started out in three stacked drawers, but the more coiled rope I made the more batiks I’ve added. It was time to put the new purchases in their proper places. Since I love scrappy, there are many, many pieces that are fat quarters or half yards. Now I have five drawers of batiks! 😳

Toady I plan to go through some of my aqua/teal scraps. Aqua is the color for February in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Aqua/Teal is one of my favorite colors. I have lots and lots of yardage and two tubs of scraps.

I’m also hoping to create a wonderful coiled rope project with these batik scraps.

I’ve made progress on my latest crochet project but it should have been completed by today. So this evening will find me crocheting away in front of the TV.😜

Happy Scrappy Red Birthday to Me!

Today is my birthday and it’s the last Saturday of January. For my last red scrappy Saturday I made a few string blocks. I’ve said before that string blocks are a favorite of mine so I knew I’d make another rainbow string quilt this year.

I used 9” x 9” news print paper as my foundation. Lucky me I have a stack of them leftover from the last string blocks I made. I decided to use my lighter red prints for the center strips and I will do the same with future colors.

Also this week I worked on some scrappy string blocks which may or may not become string X blocks. Really I do need another scrap project.🤣

And after a not so good start with the top thread on my machine and a bit of frogging, I made another coiled rope bowl this week.

Go check out what others are making with red scraps at Angela's blog RSC 2022 . As for me I am spending my 67th birthday in my sewing room planning new projects and watching the snow fall outside my window!

Red Scrap Saturday

I haven’t even put a small dent in the red scrap bin yet. This week I pulled out my Go Baby and cut a few HSTs.

I didn’t make very many because I just don’t like using the Go Baby, it’s too much work!

I made two more of the rectangle blocks from the 3”x 4” rectangles. I’m planning to make 5 blocks from each color. I’ve already dreamed up an idea for a setting using a neutral fabric to border one side of each block.

Last week while cleaning under my sewing machine table I found this little embroidered heart. I don’t remember making it but embroidery was my first love back in the 70s.

I’m sure this isn’t that old. 😁 I decided it should be a mug rug and I plan to quilt it today.

I’ve Got Scraps

I am really in a get rid of the scraps mode and it should remain the theme for the whole year! 😁 I grabbed some yellow batik scraps and made this

I keep a plastic bag on the leg of my cutting table for scraps that are unusable. Once things start falling out, it’s time to make a kitty bed for donation. This week I had enough to complete one kitty bed (pillow)

I have a few (a lot) UFOs that need attention. The first one I think I was going to use as a background for appliqué. Can’t figure out why I pinned it to batting and backing before the appliqué.🤪

The other 3 are table runners in various states of completion. Maybe I can get them finished by months end.

It’s another cold day here in paradise. I hope you’re warm and enjoying your day wherever you are.

Scrappy Saturday

This was a pretty slow week for me. I worked on a few bowls

I didn’t have much inspiration for working on my red scraps until Friday when I found a small bag of red scraps from my friend Catherine. I randomly pierced them together and created this table topper.

Really hoping to piece some string blocks next week.
I did start a new evening crochet project using a cotton gradient yarn. It’s the Wild Ginger Shawl.

Red Scraps On Saturday

I've joined the Rainbow Scrap Challenge again this year. I'm really hoping to do better keeping up this year like I did when Angela first started this challenge. The color for January is red. Red and purple are the colors I have the least of but that's relative because I have so much of everything! 😁

None of my scraps are organized. I have fat quarters to yardage on shelves in the closet and anything smaller is in a bin. Each color has it's own bin (or bins). 😒

Yesterday I dug in the scrap bin and started cutting 3"x 4" rectangles

I stitched them into blocks and I plan to continue to make these every month.

I also thought this would be another opportunity to make a few additional items for my shop each month. Like mug rugs, table runners and of course coiled rope items.

So I pulled out the red batik scraps and created this.

Today I plan to cut more rectangles and lots of strips because I love string quilts and it's time I made another one. I'm thinking of doing a few economy blocks each month as well.
I can't wait to see what everyone else is making with red scraps, so I'll use part of this cold snowy day checking out all the beautiful creations over at So Scrappy

It’s New Year’s Eve. I’m not going to make any resolutions, I’m just praying things get better and I will be doing my part to that end.

I’ve been visiting blogs and trying to leave comments but they keep disappearing. I had this problem before but can’t remember how I fixed it. Guess my daughter will rescue me eventually.

I promised pictures of the Christmas decorations, so here they are

Lots of decorating and now I'm doing lots of undecorating! 😀
