Friday Scrapbag

I hadn't used my EQ program in a while and there was a lot of discussion on my "Scrap Bags" group about EQ6, so I dug mine out. I loaded my EQ5 on my mini laptop and started playing. I didn't realize how much I missed it. This is one of my first designs. I love the black with the bright and light scraps. I think grey would work as well. What do you think?
Enjoy your weekend!

Today's Weather is Made for Quilting

We had a little of everything today weather wise. It was a perfect day to work on another UFO. This one is not as old as the last one. It's about 2 years old. When I got it out I discovered I had actually made the binding which I thought was a plus. Then I realized it was a single fold binding. What was I thinking that day? I always make double fold, even when I bind a wall hanging. I'm going to use it anyway because this is a small quilt. I hope the binding holds up.

I'd like to start an applique project. I have looked in some of my books, but I can't seem to find anything different. Do you have a favorite that you've made or that you plan to make? Maybe one that's on your "Some Day" list. Leave me a comment and let me know.

1 UFO Finished

Here's a picture of the finished UFO hanging on the door outside my sewing room. On to the next one. Which one to pick? So many choices!

Small Accomplishments

I've done some scrap sorting today. I'm almost done, only 2 more bins. Too bad I didn't start out organizing my scraps instead of throwing them all together. I could have spent this time sewing. Lesson learned. I have a lot more blue scraps than any other color. So I've had to make some changes to my original scrap storage plan. It's really strange because I have mostly pinks and greens in my yardage stash.
Tonight I will sew the binding on the UFO I just finished hand quilting. Yippee! One UFO done only 20 to go! LOL
I was going to work on my Sherbet quilt, but I've had to put that aside. I thought it would make a nice baby gift, but I found out the baby is a boy. So yesterday I pulled these fabrics from my stash and I'm trying to decide on a pattern. Any ideas? I'm open to suggestions. I was thinking about a controlled string quilt or Broken dishes. I still have some time, I think the baby is due in June.
Lastly, it looks as though we're in for another snow storm. Spring just can't get here soon enough. (this is for my DD, Morgan) Happy Quilting! Yes it's a Holiday!

No Time

I got a new cell phone today. UGH! It will probably take me all weekend to figure it out, so I don't have time to write a real blog. I thought you might like to see my first string quilt. It's still not finished, though I've completed a few others since this one was started. Happy Quilting!

GIFTS

I haven't been feeling my best lately, with this head cold, but I've received some special gifts that have made me feel much better! I received this box of scraps from Wanda at Exuberant Color. Thank you so much Wanda. I've already made foundations for string blocks.
After all of the snow days I wasn't feeling well enough on Tuesday to walk up to the school, which would have been my first day back. So today when I got there these items were waiting for me. They came from the school principal who knows that I do paper piecing.
The students are at the sandwiching stage on 2 quilts and still piecing 2 quilts. The quilts will be tied, so we should have them finished in mid March when their class ends.
I'm off now to have some tea and do some hand sewing. I hope you are lucky enough to get some sewing done.

Valentine's Goodies

I hope you all had a great Valentine's Day. In spite of the fact that I have a head cold I had a good day. Got these goodies from my DH who also fixed dinner. That's always a plus. I really love dark chocolate. So this made me very happy.

I finished the hand quilting on the UFO I was working on, so now it just needs binding. I also finished the black and white table runner. I don't think I'm feeling well enough to quilt today so I'll probably just sit back and enjoy my new Kaffe Fassett book. I love his quilts! Lots of color!
Or maybe I'll read my other new book. I purchased Fool's Puzzle by Earlene Fowler, with my
birthday money. It's the first book in the Benni Harper series. Thank you Erin!

Hand Quilting

I've been really busy piecing blocks binding quilts and table runners and hand quilting a UFO. I'd say it's approximately 10 years old. (maybe, she laughs) It's been a few months since I did any hand quilting. Look what I did to these needles! Now I've bent needles before, but never this bad and never at the eye. I'm thinking these were defective. Won't buy those again.

Here is a picture of the UFO I'm working on. It was paper pieced using the Sew Precise! by EQ. I'm just about finished the quilting, and then on to the binding.

Oh No 18 to 24 Inches More

I'm off this morning to the local middle school to do volunteer work. I'm helping the sewing teacher with her quilting class. We teach the students to make lap quilts which are then donated to local charities and senior centers. I've been doing this every school day for the past five years. We started out making covers for the sewing machines the students use. Our next project was a little too ambitious, Quilt in a Day Underground Railroad. We did get a few of those completed, but by the time we got to the 4th block most students were pretty disinterested. Lesson learned.
So now we just do simple blocks and make quilts that go together fast so we don't lose them in the middle of the process.
Yes we are expecting more snow starting this evening, 18 to 24 more inches! I think this will be my last school day until next Tuesday with the holiday on Monday. I know I'm not the only one who's snowed in, so I hope you're all getting some quilting done.

Good Snow Day

We only got 14 inches of snow. We were the lucky ones. My DSs got 28 inches of snow! We are in for another round of snow this week. Tuesday into Wednesday, this time with my area getting the heaviest snow fall. Here are some pictures of our house taken by DH after the storm.

This is great quilting weather, so I should get lots done. I did finish this mini. It needed binding. I made binding for the Black and White table runner. I will hand stitch it down as I watch the Superbowl this evening.
I also made a sample pinwheel block for our new Quilt With Us Techniques group. Don't know if I like it yet or not. I was going for low contrast, but this may be too low. I'll come back and look at it in a few days.

Off to do more piecing. If you're snowed in like me, do some quilting!

Snowed In?

Well this is the weekend for me to make lots of progress on my projects. Supposedly we are in for a whopper of a snow storm. It should have started by now, but as I look outside I can't find one snowflake. But don't worry, snow or no snow I will be quilting and crocheting this weekend.
This evening I finished cutting the strings for the swap and pinned the binding on a mini quilt. I will do some work on my afghan tonight while I watch one of my favorite shows, Medium.
Tomorrow I plan to start by sorting through some more scraps and then hopefully do some machine quilting.
That's my plan. Now come on snow!!!

Cutting Strings

I've been spending a lot of time this week cutting strings. We're having a String Swap on my Quilt With Us group, In Love With Strings! Each of us is sending 25 assorted strings to our swap partners. As I was cutting my strings I discovered I have lots of old fabric. I know it sounds chic to say vintage but some of it is down right old (one was stamped1994). Some of it I still like but some of it, not so much! So I'm going to cut it up and make lots of string quilts before it turns to dust. That way I'll have lots of room for new fabric!

This is some of the stash

As you can see my stash is arranged by color. I have two more shelves like this. One has 5 stacks and the other has 4 stacks of fabric. Do you think I should go on a "Fabric Diet"?

Birthday Weekend

Haven't posted in a while, because Friday was my Birthday and it turned into a "Birthday Weekend." I did a little piecing by hand and some machine piecing. Also I did some crocheting. I did this all on Friday, my actual Birthday. On Saturday I got a haircut, and my DH and DD decided to take me to dinner. Something just didn't seem quite right all day long ( you know, lots of phone calls and whispering). So when we got to the restaurant, you guessed it, most of my large family was there. SURPRISE! Sisters,Brother Nieces, we had a great dinner. The real surprise is that it was arranged by my 17 year old DD. WOW!
On Sunday my DH and I went shopping for most of the day and we brought home Chinese Take Out for dinner. So lucky me, no cooking or dishes for the whole weekend!
This is what I worked on. Remember the Sherbet post?
