Scrap Happy Saturday

I gave my “Nina” a rest and spent a little time this week piecing with Georgie Girl.

She does make a beautiful stitch. I started a mug rug

and a few randomly pieced blocks.

I think I will pair them with a bit of Osnaburg.

It’s so funny, because as usual I still have lots of scraps left.

What’s Working on Wednesday

What’s working this week is a quilt for donation I started on Monday. I chose these fabrics.

         dbq

I came up with an idea of where I wanted to go with this quilt, wrote down a few measurements and started piecing.

Haven’t decided if I like the large gray polka dot blocks yet. They’re a little disruptive. I’ll see after I get a few more blocks made. Maybe they will end up being the start of something new, cause I really need another WIP!

I’ve also spent a bit of time quilting more organic lines on this small stacked coins quilt. It’s taking forever, I’m so ready for it to be finished. I have 4 other quilts in line patiently waiting their turn.

And in the evenings, this has been my TV companion.

This is the Ying-hua Shawl it’s a free download on Ravelry.

What’s Working on Wednesday

      photo (68)

I couldn’t resist posting this picture of the grosgrain ribbon I just received in the mail. All this lovely color makes me so happy but what makes me even happier is that tomorrow is the first day of Spring! I’m looking forward to lots of beautiful colors in gardens, clothing and quilts!

So with Spring in mind I pulled out these batiks and made a table runner. I will be quilting it today along with another UFO that needs to be finished.

With the scraps I made a mug rug.

If you’re on this side of the world I know you’re probably happy Spring is almost here too. What are you looking forward to this Spring?

What’s Working on Wednesday

Since Spring just isn’t getting here fast enough I chose a flower theme for my Quilt Day challenge piece.

          Creations 278

I started with a pieced background and added a stem and a few leaves.

          Creations 279

I stitched them down with Gutermann embroidery thread and my Bernina. Hadn’t done this in years so I took a little while for me to get comfortable with the process again.

         Creations 280

Next I added lots of lavender petals.

         Creations 282

On the petals I did a few outline stitches and then with a deep purple thread I randomly added little scribbles.

         Creations 286

Next I added the pot and since we had to include a circle, I added a red one.

         Creations 287

The challenge was to make a piece at least 12 x 12 using purple, green and yellow and to include a circle. Looks like I covered all the bases. I don’t know how I’m going to finish this yet, but I’ll work on it later this week.

Scrap Happy Saturday on Sunday

I’m so happy teal/aqua is the color for March because it’s one of my favorites. Since I was working on other projects I didn’t spend much time with my scraps but I did manage to work on a few things.

        Scrap Thingy's 504

I made one randomly pieced block and since random piecing is something I enjoy I will be making a few more just like I did with the pink ones.

       Scrap Thingy's 505

I found a few WIPs that fit the bill.

      Scrap Thingy's 509

These HST’s are on their way to becoming a mug rug.

      Scrap Thingy's 507

And these HST’s, I don’t quite know yet,

     aquacat

but someone seemed to like them. Maybe a cat bed!

What’s Working on Wednesday

I’ve had one of those weeks where I intended to do a lot but not much got done. Let’s see I should have finished my shawl from the Ravelry CAL, but I didn’t. I should have pulled out the aqua/teal scraps, but I didn’t. I should have quilted the stacked coins quilt from Sunday’s post, but I didn’t. What did I do instead? I don’t know. Other than a cleaner house, I can’t tell you what I did.

This week I’m certainly hoping to do better. Starting with joining Sharon’s Let’s Book It.

I’ve chosen this book. Although I’ve used it before there are a few patterns I’d like to try.

           bit

I will be making this pattern. I’m thinking it will be a great one to help me use up some scraps.

           bitq

I think it’s such a good idea to dust off the books and magazine’s I’ve collected and put them to good use. I bet you have some too. Go, check it out.

On Sunday and a Winner

Happy Sunday! Here in the northeast we are expecting yet another snow storm this afternoon. I hope to spend my time today in the sewing room.

The new color for the RSC 2014 challenge is aqua/teal. I haven’t started yet but I will be quilting this today. Do you think it counts?

       aq

The Quiltsy team has been issued a challenge for National Quilting Day by our team leaders. We are to make something that represents our first quilt. Here’s my first quilt in all it’s puffy hand quilted glory! Wow, have my color and fabric choices changed!

I chose batiks for my small challenge quilt.

I hope you all enjoyed the Uncommonly Corduroy book tour. I really loved seeing all the different interpretations of Stephanie’s patterns. All the patterns in the book are well written and suitable for a beginning or advanced quilter. So I hope you will check it out.

The winner of the e book is Pam Roever. Congratulations! I’ve sent you an e-mail.
