Wayback Wednesday

Today my wayback Wednesday is our holiday picnic quilt. This quilt was made in 1994, when I first started quilting. (wow, I sure made a lot of quilts that first year) It's tied and not very formal, it's the perfect quilt for a picnic! This is a scrappy string tablerunner I am binding today. I will be using it on my kitchen table this July 4th holiday.

Saturday Scrapbag

These are the blocks for a secret quilt I'm working on now. Sorry I'm not going to say anymore about it yet. Remember these small leftovers from my Brights Log Cabin ? Well, I've created a mini quilt and I still have a few left. I have plans to make wonky stars with them. We'll see how it goes.
It's going to be very hot here again today. Guess I'll get lots of quilting done!

Wayback Wednesday

This is the first Log Cabin quilt I ever completed. It is machine pieced and quilted. It has a few mistakes on the back. (one or two tucks in the fabric) I enjoyed making this quilt and consider it my first scrap quilt. It was made with scraps from my first quilts starting in 1994. I can't remember when this was finished, but I'm sure it was in the 90's. It gets used very frequently because it lives in the family room.
This is the lovely pink Hydrangea my sister gave me on Easter.
Here is the same Hydrangea with one of it's new blooms today!

Now I know that Hydrangeas turn color depending on the acidity of the soil. Below is a picture of one of my older pink Hydrangeas, which gets blooms in any color from Fuchsia to Violet.
The fact that the new one went right from pink to blue, was shocking. I don't have any info on this plant. Do you have any ideas?

UPDATE!

I've found some information on Hydrangeas on the net. I'm wondering if my plant could be a Frillibet ( Hydrangea macrophylla 'Frillibet') It does fit the profile. Any other suggestions as to what it could be?

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

We may not shower him with praise Nor mention his name in song, And sometimes it seems that we forget The joy he spreads as he goes along, But it doesn’t mean that we don’t know The wonderful role that he has had. And away down deep in every heart There’s a place that is just for Dad.....Author Unknown

Happy Father's Day to my Wonderful Husband, my Great Brothers and my Special Nephews!
And to all the other Fathers out there!
Also, an early Happy Birthday to my brother! Luv ya!

Saturday Scrapbag?

Friday Scrapbag has given way to Saturday Scrapbag. I have another idea in the works for Fridays.
Anyway, here's a glimpse of the July 4th tablerunner I'm working on for my In Love With Strings group. I issued a challenge, since the group has been so quiet lately. Looks like it's still quiet, I think I'm the only one making a holiday tablerunner. But, I don't mind.

Here's a look at my Nikko Blue Hydrangea!

No Pictures!

For the last four days I've been working on a quilt for one of the teachers at the school were I volunteer. She is expecting a baby boy in July. It's a disappearing 9 patch. I like the colors and the way the piecing turned out. I am really proud of the quilting that Jasmine and I did. (she pats herself on the back) Actually, I liked almost everything about it.
But sadly in my haste to make sure it was finished and wrapped in time for my last day of school today, I forgot to take pictures!
The photo below is the only reminder. It's a leftover block.

I'm hoping one of the teachers will be able to get a picture for me.

Friday Scrapbag

Remember this little scrap quilt? This is a close up of the quilting I've done on it with Jasmine. (new Juki) I'm in the process of binding it and when that's done it will get some hand stitching. Maybe even some embellishments.
It was hand pieced and I almost hand quilted it, but I thought just a few hand stitches would be better.

My Lilies and Irises are blooming! Have a look.

Have a great weekend!

Wayback Wednesday

I made this two color quilt from a pattern in the book Fun With Fat Quarters by Nancy J. Martin. The blue fabrics are scraps from a blue log cabin quilt I was in the process of making for our bed. That quilt is my second oldest UFO.
The name of this quilt is Double Four Patch, and it was made in 1997. Right now it hangs over the bed in our guest room, waiting for it's partner!
It's machine pieced and quilted.

Friday Scrapbag

Hello, My name is Charmaine and I am a Fabriholic! I really don't know when it happened.
I was looking for a piece of beige linen that I thought I'd purchased a while back. When I came across this drawer full of fabric scraps, all nicely folded except one (it was rolled). I don't remember doing this, but I must have. Most of the fabrics in the drawer are also included in the Oklahoma Back Roads quilt. A few of the pieces are leftover from things I made for my DD. There's even a piece from the Halloween quilt which was used in my DD's kindergarten class. I guess they've been tucked away here since last year? Oooo, or maybe longer.
Any way I'm thinking if I don't remember a stash of fabric, maybe my stash is too big......... Nah

There's no such thing as too much fabric!

By the way, I never did find the beige linen!
Have a great weekend!

Snow Ball Night

Guess what? I've joined Snowball Night! at Sew Many Ways. I think this is great idea Karen has come up with.
You just choose your fabrics and then choose your night and create as many Snowballs as you like. By the time there's enough snow for the real thing you'll have a cozy quilt completed!
Come on, sign up. I know it's another project, but what could be easier than making a few blocks a week? Before you know it you've finished a quilt.

I chose polka dots! I've been collecting them for a while now and I thought they would be perfect! Here are a few of them. Lots more to cut. These are the first blocks I made and look at the little bonus blocks! Hmmm........ might make a great mini quilt. I'm just saying.
You should check it out! I think it will be fun. I can't wait to see all the finished quilts.

Spring To Finish Challenge Results

You might have seen this button on my side bar. I joined the Spring To Finish Challenge. I'm sad to say I didn't quite finish the items on my list. I had a total of 7 items on my list. One of the things on my list, a table runner never even got touched! One item is half finished.
Then there's this Oklahoma Backroads quilt. The pattern is from Bonnie Hunter's site, Quiltville. It was a challenge I issued to my Scrap Bags group last year. (I know, I should be ashamed) Well I will be sewing the binding down tonight. So it will finally be done. I was supposed to reward myself for my finishes, but since I haven't finished yet, I will wait for my reward.
