What’s Working on Wednesday a Winner and a Giveaway

 

What’s working here today is lots of snow and very cold temps! I’ve had time to work on a few things this week. While DH was on vacation last week we took a trip to a new to me fabric store and a yarn store I’ve visited before. I only purchased 3 skeins of yarn! I got 2 skeins of Berroco Comfort which I’ve never used before and I must say I like it. I made another Topsy Turvy cowl.

    

I also did work on a few Valentine items. This little mug rug.

      

And since strings are my “thing” I finished this string table runner. I used a meandering stitch with a little heart thrown in here and there.

   

I did get the backing for the Confetti quilt but now my rotary cutter has died. I was just at Joann last Wednesday it was fine. Just my luck picked it up Monday morning and the spring is gone. I hope to get a new one soon because the little 28mm just won’t work.

This week’s giveaway is going to be something a bit different. I’ve made many, many shawls and shawlettes and since I don’t sell them I have to find something to do with them. So this weeks giveaway is the Wisteria shawl.

What’s Working on Wednesday and a Giveaway

Happy New Year!!!!!!

I had a great holiday and I hope you did too! I have lots of things I’d like to do this year. How about you? I hope to keep up with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this year.(didn’t do so well last year) And I also hope this will be a year filled with many string projects. I made a few quilts and crocheted items for donation last year I’d like to do the same this year.

So let’s get started. January is my birthday month and I thought it would be a good idea to have a giveaway every week. So starting today and ending next Tuesday Jan. 07,2014 you have a chance to win this set of Tonga Treats.

This week finds me working on all kinds of things. I finished a shawlette/scarf I started (I’m ashamed to say) last February. Actually that’s not true, I finished 2 shawls, both from last February!

           

           

I also started this Valentine mug rug. Since my backing fabric has not arrived I haven’t quilted my Confetti quilt! Fingers crossed it arrives today.

           

Week 3 of my birthday month giveaway has arrived. This week I’m giving away this Riley Blake Twice as Nice charm pack. Remember this quilt? It’s from the pattern I tested for Stephanie at Loft Creations. I’m not usually into solids but I admit I love the way these look. I will be quilting this quilt this week. (I hope the backing arrives on time)

What’s Working on Wednesday and a Giveaway!

I’m finally getting a little sewing done. Now that I’ve limited my time on the computer! I made binding for these quilts. One will be donated, the other goes in my Etsy shop.

I started these blocks yesterday. Don’t know where they’re headed. I’m auditioning fabrics for a background right now. I’m thinking yellow and white. Or maybe beige and brown. What do you think?

Today is my baby girls 19th birthday! She’s having a great time at school and growing into a wonderful young lady. This is her first birthday away from home.

Baby girl I wish you a day filled with learning, laughter and love. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MORGAN!!!!!!!!!!!!

What’s Working on Wednesday and a Winner!

 

I had a chance to work on a few WIPs this week. These were made from scraps and have been sitting around forever waiting for binding.

     

     

This one I thought was finished but it just needed another border. I was able to find a yard of the red Rouenneries Deux fabric so I added borders all around.

     

    

 

I’ve really enjoyed this month long birthday giveaway! I got lots of answers to many questions. I found out that a few of you want to make your first quilt. While some, like me would just like to finish up a few UFOs. I learned that some of you like to mix prints and solids in your quilts. I also learned that most of you don’t use precuts and that many of you live in places where you’re having the same same cold and snowy weather that I’m having here.

I’d like to thank you all for stopping by and answering questions and entering my giveaways this month. Also thank you for all the birthday wishes. It’s been lots of fun! Today I am 59 years old!

What’s Working on Wednesday

While working on all the bazaar items I did manage to finish a Thanksgiving table runner. I’ve had these scraps in my stash for quite some time. The fabric is from the Hearth and Home collection by Connecting Threads copyright 2009! It was one of two 1 lb. scrap bags I purchased. Believe me this didn’t even make a dent in the bag!

     

     

Today what’s working is this gray and yellow quilt I’ve been dreaming of for quite a while. (could be too much red and green) I’m using my Denyse Schmidt fabrics leftover from a previous giveaway and some coordinating gray and yellow fabrics. I like the way this is coming together. It’s soft, but still interesting.

What’s Working on Wednesday

Today, well yesterday I started working on a quilt made with Song Bird by Carina Gardener for Riley Blake. Lots of pretty pinks and greens. I started with one small charm pack (21 charms) and 4 fat quarters.

                     

So today I plan to put two borders on. A narrow (about 1”) border and then maybe a 4” or more border. The narrow border will be a small white on white print. The larger border is going to be the large flower print that’s in the body.

                     

We had a little sun today so I got to snap this picture really fast before the wind carried it away!

What’s Working on Wednesday

Last week found me working on a variety of things not only did I finish the purse from Uncommonly Corduroy (see giveaway post) but some scrap projects as well.

I made another block from my ongoing leaders and enders pile. I will need to finish four of these before I can work on the quilt I have in mind.

          

I made one drawstring bag using Jen’s tutorial

          

and I have a second one almost finished.

         

I even got a bit of crocheting done. Still working with yarn scraps I chose these two colors and made another Topsy Turvy Cowl.

        

It snowed here again today but in my house it looks like Spring thanks to my DH for the flowers!

What’s Working on Wednesday

I’ve finished the shawlette and it’s blocking at this very moment. I really enjoyed making this one for the second time and I love the yarn my DD chose.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you know that I love log cabin blocks. It’s been my favorite block since I started quilting back in 1994. I’ve made a few log cabin quilts and some of the variations.

       

       

Well while I was cyber shopping for holiday gifts I found some log cabin tops. Yes I know I was supposed to be buying gifts but you know how it goes, two for them, one for you. Lol This is the first time I’ve purchased a quilt top. I love the setting and the fabrics. When the holidays are over I plan to finish this top. So I guess I’ve already added a WIP to start off 2013!

What’s Working on Wednesday

Today I finished up the last of the items for my craft shows this year. There’s one show tomorrow and another on Dec. 7th.

          

Here are a few of the card holders I made. I also made the usual small items like cosmetic bags, coin purses and lavender sachets. I am happy I can work on some “wants” instead of “needs” now.

While rearranging some fabric piles again in the sewing room I decided I’d pack up most of the muslin I have from when I first started quilting cause I really need the space for quilt backs. I was surprised to find this little piece my DD created years ago in scouts. It’s now destined to become a wall hanging.

        

I can’t wait to get back to my scraps. Scrap quilts are my first love. So imagine how happy I was to win Kelly’s giveaway. She blogs at Pinkadot Quilts and was giving away scraps. Look what I received in the mail!

        

A big box overflowing with wonderful pink scraps!! Thank you Kelly! I can’t wait to dive into this box. I have lots of ideas!

What’s Working on Wednesday

After spending some time quilting (no problem with the Juki this time) my string quilt with the polka dot border

                        

my neck felt a bit stiff, so I decided to work on something else for a while. Well when you have at least 14 PIPs sitting around begging to be finished what do you do?

                    

Get out your scraps and start something new of course! I started some new string blocks. They are 6 x 8 1/2. I wanted to see what would happen if I stretched the blocks out a bit.

                         

With these blocks I’m using my favorite, black and white for the center strip. I haven’t figured out where this is going yet, these blocks may even get cut in half! Don’t know, we’ll see.

Still busy with stuff for the bazaar but I did manage to get this small table runner done. It just needs binding. I made it with my favorite line of fabric from Connecting Threads which I have a never ending amount of. LOL

           

I even made this cucumber and tomato salad to go with dinner.

           

There’s no WIPs and Whatnot blog this week because of the giveaway, but it will be back next week.

What’s Working on Wednesday

 

Today I’m trying to finish up a few more things for the Christmas Bazaar tomorrow. Oh and did I mention my DS found another bazaar for us to do on Saturday. Talking about last minute. I hope there are some items left for Saturday. I really don’t have time to make any more. Here are pictures of some of the items

What’s Working on Wednesday

I was finally able to get my scrap table topper finished last night. I like how it turned out despite having to scrap the original plan of a meandering stitch.

                        

Here it is on the breakfast room table. I think I’ll keep it!

I thought you might like to see the beautiful flowers DD sent me for my birthday. I just love her so much and she’s all grown up!
